Hospital visit

Reid started coughing Tuesday afternoon with a barky cough. I took him to our family doctor around 5:00. It’s a cold, he’ll be fine.

I was out with Tate and hit home around 9:00. The cough for worse. We called the after hours service. Ultimately, they said to go to the hospital. We signed in at 10:37. Around midnight, we got into the back. At least one of us is sleeping.

I debated driving to an outlying hospital, about 40 minutes away. I may have been in my way home by now.

After about 10 minutes of waiting, we were taken to a room with a bed.  A few minutes later, a nurse came in and said that Reid had a low fever.  He got some tylenol and a gown.  She said he had textbook croup, and would probably need an oral steroid.   Shortly after that, he went back to sleep while we waited for the doctor.

I settled in for what I expected to be a long wait.  After about half an hour later, the doctor came, and confirmed he had croup.  A nurse was to bring medicine, and we could go him.  I got his pyjamas on, and by the time the medicine came and was administered, we were ready to go.

He was in bed and asleep by 1:40.  Three hours sounds kind of bad, but for our local hospital, that is pretty good.
