Falling into fall

September 24, 2012

In the last couple of days, the fall season has officially arrived.

As I have said before, it’s a busy time as we get back into the full swing of things.

Sometimes, I wonder if we try too hard to be busy.

Mohawk update

August 2, 2012

Tate just got home.

Wow, it was short!!

To the wood!!

To make things right, it just got buzzed down to a #1 with clippers.  It still shows up.  For a few days.

Family differences

July 28, 2012

As a parent, you have to wonder about sending a child off to camp.  Especially a younger one.

Usually, you have less to wonder about with family.

Great Wolf

April 9, 2012

Yesterday, we went to Great Wolf Lodge for a night.

Great Wolf Lodge has an indoor water park, with a couple of pools and several waterslides for kids and adults.

We went last summer for a night, with just our family.

This time, we went with Sandra’s sister, brother, and their families.  It was a good time, but it was good to come home.

We had lots of fun.  There is lots of standing in line as part of the experience.

Tate was asleep a few minutes into the trip.  Reid finally fell asleep about half an hour before we got home.  Tate went to bed fairly easily.  Reid was a mess.  It took him about fifteen minutes to settle down.

At the end of it all, both are in bed, resting.

Sharing the wealth

February 21, 2012

After three weeks of lingering sickness, I seem to be feeling better. Of couse, the downside is that everyone else is suffering from a variation of what has been keeping me down. Again.

I finally feel almost human.  The lingering effects of the rash from the reaction last week seem to be almost gone.

As I am sitting down in the quiet waiting for everyone else to sleep, I hear some coughs.  Agonizing and frequent from the two year old.  Periodic, not as bad from the now six year old. Moans of misery from my wife.  Thinking, uggh, what will the day at work/school/whatever hold tomorrow?

Time for sleep.

Birthday parties

February 13, 2012

On Saturday, we had a birthday party for the boys with both of our families.

Since their birthdays are within in month, we thought it might be easier to have everyone together once, rather than having everyone in twice within a month.

This seemed like an especially good idea, as we have been busy and struggling with sickness since Christmas.

We had planned on February 11, and were working toward that.  We were getting ready last week, when I was feeling close to my worst.

Things went well, all things considered.

We served lasagna, which was a hit.  Some of the kids can be picky eaters, but everyone ate pretty well.

The boys got some good gifts that will be useful for them

This Friday, we are having a party for Tate with kids from school at a local indoor play centre. It will be busy, but but.  It will be an adventure to have approximately 10 four to six year old boys running around for a couple of hours.

Busy week with the family

December 5, 2011

This past week has been a busy one.

Last Sunday, Tate had hockey practice at 11:00.  I took him to church, and left at about 10:20.  We got to the arena and on the ice by 11:00, which was a significant feat, considering it was about a 20 minute drive.

Sandra woke up feeling dizzy, and it passed fairly quickly.  About 2:00, she started feeling dizzy again, and it lasted all day.  Monday morning, she woke up not feeling any better.  We got an appointment to see the doctor around lunch.  He gave a diagnosis of BPPV, which is form of vertigo aggravated by moving.  It may last up to 30 days.  He gave her a prescription as well.

Tuesday was no better.  The combined results of dealing with the kids, lousy weather, and so on, wore me down as well.  Sandra slept for several hours.

On Wednesday, she felt much better.

Thursday was not real great.  We had an appointment with a physiotherapist, which we had been waiting for months for.  We attended, and I went off to work.  Sandra ended up walking to and from school to pick up Tate.   The day did not end really well.

On Friday, I was going to a different place for work.  I had made arrangements to drop Tate off with a friend from school to walk him to school.  By lunch, Sandra still was not feeling well.  She managed to go to school and get Tate, and was not feeling well.

Tate had a 7:15 hockey game on Saturday.  We ended up getting a babysitter to stay with P and Reid.

P had a visit that morning. We had the adoption Christmas party mentioned in another post.

Today has been a better day, from the perspective of Sandra feeling better.

Lots of screaming, yelling, and complaining.  From two of three, by the end of the day.

Sandra felt good for the day.  We then
