Some days of full of good things and bad things.

Today was one with a significant highlight.

Reid is in his second season in a special hockey program.  One of our main goals has been for him to learn to be able to skate independently.  He was getting close at the end of last year.  It took him a while to get back up to speed this year.  He has been getting close.  The coaches have ben working to be get up by leaning on his hockey stick, or his leg to get up.

I was watching him play on the ice, like he usually does.  Then, I saw him get up and skate about five or six steps.  I was completely stunned.  I was pleased to see all the work he has been doing pay off.

Busy times

January 8, 2014

It has been really cold for the past few days.

We had record breaking cold yesterday with the wind chill. That has made it really hard to get the kids outside.

The boys have been having fun at hockey.

Reid’s team had a game against another special hockey team form a nearby city.   They didnt have top many show up.

He spent quite a bit of time p!aying in the net with the goalie, a family friend from church. A couple of days later, Reid was still asking about his friend and talking about playing goalie.

End of the hockey season

March 24, 2013

After a long season, it’s over.

We were at the rink for a 7:00 game this morning.  They won quite handily.

It meant we had to be back for another game at 1:15.

They played a team they had beat soundly before.  Not this time.  They were down four goals, scored three, and then the other team scored two.

It was a tough end to the season.

Oh well, there’s always next year.

Hockey fun again!!

Tate’s team is playing in second intermission of the final Rangers home game today!! Lots of fun. Go Blackhawks!!

Hockey tournament

January 2, 2013

Here’s a follow up to Tournament Finals.

On Sunday morning, Tate’s team had their final game.

It was a really close game.  Both teams played very well.  It went back and forth, and both teams led.  At the end of it all, the other team scored a goal to break a tie in the last six seconds.  The final score was 7-6.

It was heartbreaking to watch.

Tournament finals

December 30, 2012

Tate’s team won their game yesterday.

The other team scored the first goal, and never was in the lead again.

The official score posted on the board was 3-1, but it was a lot more than that.

Tate scored a goal from centre ice.  He shot the puck, and it slid along — right past the goalie.  It was a pretty easy goal for him.

Next up – Blue pool finals at 9:30.

Christmas, Cousins and Hockey

December 28, 2012

Thursday morning saw the start of the annual Christmas tournament.

The first game was at 7:15, following a late night with cousins.

There was another game at 3:00. Tate played goal, and he did really well. It is a tough position to play, especially when it is only for one game.

By supper, he was falling asleep on the table. The mention of dessert perked him up.

We had cousins over, and they left around 10. It was a late end to a long day, with a fabulous mood to match. As a result, sleeping in was required.

There was another game this afternoon. It looked a bit tense at the beginning, as the other team started strong, but lost their momentum by the end of the first period. Tate’s tram won handily.

There is another game at 3 on Saturday, and one more on Sunday morning if they win that one.

Go Rangers!! Go Blackhawks!!

November 27, 2012

Sorry NHL fans, not those teams.

We are attending a Kitchener Rangers game tonight.

Tate’s team is playing another pretyke team for six minutes in the second intermission.

This program is sponsored by Tim Hortons, a major sponsor of hockey and soccer for kids.

They are playing the London Knights, another strong team. It should be a great game.

Yes, Virginia, there really is hockey

October 27, 2012

There has been much made about the lack of hockey due to the ongoing NHL lockout.

There is still lots of it going on at many levels – from kids learning the basics, to very competitive junior and senior hockey.

Tate got his sweater and had his first practice on Tuesday.

Today was picture day and another practice.

We found out hat his team will be playing in the second intermission at the local major Junior A team in a few weeks.

We went last year, as well, and it was a great deal of fun.

Hockey season again

October 13, 2012

There has been a lot of complaining the in media that there is no hockey going in the midst of the ongoing NHL lockout.  A local radio announcer was commenting that is not at all true.

In fact, there is lots of great hockey going on.  Kids are playing again.  There is lots of junior A hockey in Canada.  These are the 16 to 20 years olds who are the future hockey stars.
