Sick continues

November 11, 2012

After a couple more days, everyone is actually on the mend.

It took a trip to the doctor for three of us, with prescriptions for different things.

Reid is still snuggling, but seems better than he was yesterday. Hopefully this time it sticks.

Swimming Lessons – week 3 and 4

April 18, 2012

Reid had to miss out on swimming lessons last week.

We were out for supper, and we noticed stuff running from his ear.  By the time we were done, we had decided that Sandra would take Tate to swimming lessons, and I would take Reid to the doctor.

It ended up that Reid had a burst ear drum, from a strep infection.  His throat was really red as well.  He got a prescription as well.  Fun times.  The doctor said to check with our family doctor next week, and he would likely be able to go back in the pool.

Fast forward a week.

Sandra called our family doctor, and he didn’t recommend going in the pool.  He said to bring Reid in next week, and see how things look.

We ended up taking him for lessons tonight.  I didn’t put his head under the water.  It was a bit different, as dunking is part of the drill.

So, that is how it is week 3 and 4.  Week 3 that Reid went, week 4 of the session.

Sick update

March 11, 2012

It’s been a long weekend.  Reid is still suffering from whatever it is that is bothering him.

He has a rash on his face.  As well, he has had a nasty cough tonight.

Poor little guy.

Hopefully he gets over it quickly.  It is just awful to see him in misery.

Another sick one

March 9, 2012

After spending most of February with at least one of us sick, March was looking better.  Until yesterday.

Poor Reid woke up quite lethargic.  Sitting around, content to do nothing, or snuggle in and be held.  Completely unlike him.

I took him to the doctor, and it may have been an ear infection.  I got a prescription, but he said to hold off for a few days in case it gets better on its own.

Today, he was OK until about 2:30.  Then, he snuggled in.  For  awhile, until the ibuprofen and acetaminophen kicked in, and he felt better.  He had a few times when he wasn’t doing well, but he bounced back.  I put him to bed, and he settled in.  After about an hour, he suddenly started to cry, almost inconsolably.  After a few minutes, he stopped.  About an hour later, he started crying again. We got him up, and I held him for a while.  Eventually, we put him back to bed.

Hopefully, he sleeps.  Through the night.  Soundly.

Sharing the wealth

February 21, 2012

After three weeks of lingering sickness, I seem to be feeling better. Of couse, the downside is that everyone else is suffering from a variation of what has been keeping me down. Again.

I finally feel almost human.  The lingering effects of the rash from the reaction last week seem to be almost gone.

As I am sitting down in the quiet waiting for everyone else to sleep, I hear some coughs.  Agonizing and frequent from the two year old.  Periodic, not as bad from the now six year old. Moans of misery from my wife.  Thinking, uggh, what will the day at work/school/whatever hold tomorrow?

Time for sleep.

Tate’s party

February 17, 2012

We invited the boys in Tate’s class as school to a birthday party at a local indoor playground.

We had about 10 come.

The boys got to play for about half an hour before food was served.  We had pepperoni and cheese pizza.  OK, not horrible, which is a pleasant surprise.  We had presents and cake.

Next, the kids got to go out and play.  It was fun for them.

We also had to deal with Reid, as well as with the other kids running around.  It’s a bit of a challenge watching a two year old, when there are several dozen kids, up to the age of twelve running around.

Still, he had fun.  And, we were tired when we were done.

I expect 10 boys went to bed very easily tonight, and likely sleep in tomorrow.

And thankfully, a couple of parents offered to watch Reid for a few minutes so we could supervise the whole pack.  That was an added bonus. 🙂

It is hard to believe that Tate will be six.  Where has the time gone?

More sickness

February 2, 2012

It’s been another long week.

This week, we have been fighting colds.  Tate got a really bad cold last Thursday.  He’s been on his inhalers for most of the week.  I got hit on Sunday.  Really bad coughing on Sunday night/Monday morning.  On Monday, I went to work.  I wasn’t doing all that well, so I came home.  Monday and Tuesday night were not great either.

Today, I went to the doctor and got a prescription for a strong cough medicine.  Hopefully that will help me to sleep better to allow going back to work on Thursday.  We’ll see.

Sickness

January 21, 2012

It’s been a long week.

Our trip to Indiana, with the blow out (http://wp.me/pkxwz-b9) kind of set the tone for the week.

Monday was a busy day.  By the end of the day, Tate ended up throwing up.  A few times, over night.  Fun.  He took the day off school, and he spent most of the day sleeping.  He missed hockey, and stayed home from the Tuesday night program at church.

Tuesday morning, it also looked like Reid was going to be sick.  He threw up a little bit, but not much.

Then Sandra got hit on Wednesday.  I felt a bit iffy on Wednesday night, and slept for a bit.  After Tate went to bed, I felt better.

Then, on Thursday morning, I woke up feeling a bit funny.  Not a fun day.  Between sleep and other unpleasantness, a long day.

We were getting ready to put the boys to bed.  Reid was fooling around in a clothesbasket, and fell back and whacked his head, really hard. It bled.  At the end of it, Sandra took him up to the hospital.  It ended up not needing stitches.  They were home in about four hours, which isn’t bad for a trip to the hospital.

Friday morning still wasn’t great.  When Reid got up, he would walk about two steps, and then fall down and crawl.  Very unlike him.  After debating what to do for a while, we ended up dropping off Sandra and Reid at the hospital. After another four hours, it turned out they could find nothing wrong.

We still have to watch him over the weekend, and take him back if there are any other problems.

Friday was another day of napping.

Everyone has been sick this week.

Sick and whiny kids

October 30, 2011

Reid and P have been sick for a better part of the week.

Since our trip to the hospital in Tuesday night, Reid has not been sleeping really well.  I have taken him out a couple of times late at night into the cold air to try and help the croup.  One night, we took a late night run to the grocery store to get some replacement tomatoes for some that were bad.

He has been slower than normal.  Poor guy.  When he coughs, it sounds like he his going to cough up his liver.  It does seem that he is getting better.

P does not seem to be himself.  He has been exceptionally whiny for the last couple of days.  It has been a challenge for Sandra.

Many times, Tate and P have been like gas and matches.  Lots of explosions, and many time outs.  Tate complains about P doing something, and then a couple of minutes later, he does the same exact thing.  He complains that he doesn’t share, yet won’t.

It does seem better to put P to bed first, and Tate about half an hour later.  Much less friction.  Much more quiet.  To rip off Martha Stewart, “And that’s a good thing”.

Down for the count

January 13, 2011

After two challenging days at work, and more challenging after work, and a few nights with poor sleep, I decided to call in sick today.

I also went to see the doctor this afternoon.  It turns out, I may have pneumonia.  I went for a chest x-ray and got a prescription for 7 days for a couple of really huge pills.  I should find out by Friday.

On the bright side, he did tell me to stay close to home for a couple of days.  This should help ease the transition back in next week.
