Summer goes by…

July 16, 2016

We’ve had some pretty hot weather over the past week or so.

It’s been uncomfortable at times, but this the type of weather we wait all winter for.

It’s really hard to believe that July is half gone.

Before we know it, it will be September and back to school time.

Until then, we just have to enjoy the weather.

Reflections on the summer

September 7, 2014

The summer of 2014 was an unusual one, in many respects.

After a long, extremely cold winter, the weather gurus were calling for a hot summer.  They missed the boat.  There was one day that hit 30 degrees Celcius in June.  July and August were cooler and wetter than normal.

The days have slipped away.  And they are becoming shorter.  Last night, it was pretty dark by 8:30.  When it is cloudy, it can be very dark by 8:00.  The same thing has happened in the mornings.  Before long, it will be going to work and coming home in the dark.

It was a short summer, as school went untll almost the end of June, and school started in our area on September 2.

The last few days of August were nice and hot.

For the past several years, we have had passes to a local water park and Canada’s Wonderland.  We didn’t get to either one as much as we have in prior years.  LIfe has been busy this year, for a number of reasons.

We have had a foster child for just over a year, and he has been attending camps, activities, and visits with his family.

Reid has transitioned to kindergarten.  He has a modified day, as he gets picked up about halfway through the day.  He needs his sleep, and that helps him (and us).

Tate has moved into third grade in French immersion.  His teacher is impressed with him and his insights.

Activities will ramp up over the next few weeks.  This weekend has been quiet.  Hockey starts again in a couple of weeks.

September brings a return to routine, and an opportunity to think about what things we like in our lives, and what behaviours and attitudes maybe should change.  In many ways, it is a more appropriate time for resolutions for change than January is.

It is important to be busy.  However, it is more important not to be too busy.  We need to leave margins, or space around the edges of our lives, so that we have room for things that come up, or go wrong.

Think about it ….. how often does an opportunity come up for something that we have to decline because we are too busy?

What happened to the summer?

Wow, it flew by.

Tate spent a few days at camp last week.  We headed on a camping trip for a couple of days.

After a few busy days, routine will start again on Tuesday.

It’s been a busy summer, but it is nice to return to routine.

Summer’s winding down

September 2, 2012

We were planning on going to the waterpark today and meeting the boys’ cousins there.

We found out they went away with their grandparents for the night.

The boys and I ended up going with my brother-in-law to a restaurant in a nearby small town to celebrate his birthday.  The birthday person gets a free meal.

My nephew (his oldest son) went there a couple of months ago for our birthday.  We celebrate on the same day.

This pub has various forms of entertainment through the week.  We happened to have the experience of hearing karaoke this afternoon.  WOW.  I wish they had a gong, like the classic show from many years ago, The Gong Show.  It would have been well used.

Later on, Tate and I went to the indoor playground beside the water park.  He played on the play structure.  We played indoor mini golf.  We did the indoor climbing wall.

At the end of it all, we had lots of fun.

Blogging stats – mid August

August 17, 2012

In the past few months, there has been lots of traffic.

As of right now, there have been1,650 views.

Each month since February of this year, there have been more monthly views.  Halfway through August, there have been more view than there were in all of February.

It’s funny how blogging builds community.  It becomes a highlight of the day to check out new posts as soon as they are available.

Enjoy one of the last summer weekends of 2012.  Where has the year gone?

Have a good weekend!!

August rain

August 9, 2012

After a long stretch of dry weather, we finally got some decent rain today.

The forecast calls for rain throughout the weekend, which will be a relief.  There is no doubt that it is too late for some crops, hopefully it is not a total wipeout for everything.

It’s been a really funny year.

Summerlike weather in March.  Really wet for a while in the spring, but then dry for weeks.  There have been some scattered thunderstorms, but not much relief has been provided.

The rain has brought relief from the drought, and hope for things to come.

End of another long weekend

August 6, 2012

After an extended period of hot and humid weather, we had a bit of a break today.

We all slept in today, which was great.

What a crazy week

July 19, 2012

What a week it’s been.

Work has been…. work.  I’ve been trying clean up some old stuff and that has been a bit of a challenge.  Stuff gets put off because it’s  messy, and the longer it sits, the harder it is to deal with.

S left yesterday for the foster home he had been at previously.  It appears that he will go back to his family soon.  It’s hard to know.

Our niece is in the hospital in Toronto, so her younger siblings have been at our place quite a bit over the last few days.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Vacation Bible School program at our church.  For many years, I was a helper.  I felt it would be good to take a break this year.  I’ll go out and see some of the activities and take care of some other things.

We are planning on going and joining Sandra’s family, the ones with the child in the hospital, for a couple of days at a provincial park near Parry Sound.  We have been looking forward to it for a while.  We didn’t go last year, as Reid was still crawling, and it would have been impossible to keep him clean.  It will be much easier this year, as he is walking and running around.  The upside is that after a day of running and playing, he is ready for bed.

It will be a nice break from work and our regular routine.

Last day of school

June 29, 2012

It’s hard to believe that another year is almost half over.

In our area, school gets out for the summer today.
