January thaw

January 27, 2013

For the last week or so, it has been cold.  Seasonably cold for late January.

Actually, it’s been nice when it has been cold.  This winter has been warmer than average.

The cold air seems to have killed off some lingering sickness.  That’s a good thing.

The forecast is calling for a bit of warm weather for a day or two, then cooling off again.

Winter’s coming

November 23, 2012

We have had an exceptionally warm November.

The forecast was calling for colder weather, rain, and snow as the weekend approached.  I decided last night to put the Christmas lights up while it was still warm.

This morning started out warm, and as the day passed, it cooled off.

By the evening, there was snow falling, with some starting to accumulate on the ground.

Winter is getting closer and closer.

Fall weather

October 14, 2012

It’s been an interesting weekend, weatherwise.

Yesterday was quite cool.  Today, it was surprisingly warm.  Spring like, actually.

It rained a lot today.

I was out barbecuing at supper time.  It wasn’t raining too much.  It started to rain more, and more.  By the time, supper was done, it was raining quite heavily.  It was kind of nasty, too.

Sounds like more of the same this week.

August rain

August 9, 2012

After a long stretch of dry weather, we finally got some decent rain today.

The forecast calls for rain throughout the weekend, which will be a relief.  There is no doubt that it is too late for some crops, hopefully it is not a total wipeout for everything.

It’s been a really funny year.

Summerlike weather in March.  Really wet for a while in the spring, but then dry for weeks.  There have been some scattered thunderstorms, but not much relief has been provided.

The rain has brought relief from the drought, and hope for things to come.

Miserable weather

April 25, 2012

It’s funny the impact that weather can have on your outlook on life.

We had a record-breaking warm streak in mid-March, both in length and temperature.

April has been less impressive.  For the last two days, there have been snow warnings.  Yesterday, an entire county had its schools shut down due to bad weather.  Very unusual for late April.

Monday and Tuesday were both dull.  Tuesday was rainy.

I have been finding in the last month that things have been busy, and I have been tired.  I lack the will to do things.  I have been irritable, even more so than normal.  Some noise drives me nuts, other noise is somewhat soothing.

In many ways, I could say I am thinly hanging on to sanity.  That is an exaggeration, really, as things are not that bad.  I just am tired of the blah.  Today was a better day.  Still though, a few sunny days would be nice.

Change of seasons

April 24, 2012

This might seem like an odd topic a month into spring.  Winter is long behind us.  However, there was a threat of snow.  Fortunately, the air was warm, the ground was warm, and it failed to accumulate.  🙂  Enough, already.

The calendar has four seasons – fall, winter, summer, spring.

However, this is about the change of seasons in activities.  There is fall – September to December, winter – January to April, and spring/summer, with a mix of activities that run for various length of time.

Tonight is the end of our mid-week kids program at church.  This will be one more night that is free, likely to be filled with another activity.

However, there are also outdoor things that need to be done at this time of year.  I cut the grass for the first time on Saturday.  The front lawn has some funky mess that needs to be dealt with.  The flower beds will need to be planted.  In mid to late May, after the frost is done.

I am looking forward the end of regularly scheduled activities, and more informal ones.
