Settling into the New Year

January 8, 2013

The past few days have been kind of different.

Not too much going on away from home.

We’re getting ready for a trip to Indiana for a Bible quiz tournament.  The kids study a book of the Bible, or a storyline, depending on the year, and memorize questions and verses.  There are different levels of difficulty, depending on the age of the child.  Five and six year olds have different expectations that Grade five and sixes.

Preparing has been filling our time.  We’re looking forward to a break, and spending some time with some people from church.

It should be fun, but it’s about an eight hour drive.  That can be a long time, especially with a six and two year old.

August weekend

August 18, 2012

The weather has been more reasonable the last few days.  It’s been nice.

After the rain of the last couple weeks, the grass needed to be cut.

I’ve had a rechargeable lawn mower for a few years.  It’s been pretty reliable.  It’s nice not having to fool around with gas.  Electric mowers are a royal pain, because of the cord.

I started cutting, and a lever jammed, and it wouldn’t shut off.  After. some more fooling around, the mower ended up not working any more.  I thought about getting it fixed.  After thinking about it, we decided it would be better to buy a new mower, rather than try to get it fixed.

I did a bit of research, and found a decent deal on a new mower at Home Depot.

I took Reid along with me to go to Home Depot.  I checked out our local Canadian Tire, and found out there mowers were quite a bit more.  We went to the Depot and looked around for a while.  We ended up leaving with the mower and nothing else.

In the afternoon, Tate and I went for a bike ride, and he played with one of his friends from school.

To cap the evening off, we went to the local indoor playground with their cousins and played for a while.

I dropped some photos off at Wal-Mart to be printed for Reid’s birth mother place for our meeting tomorrow.

It’s funny how a short week can feel li,e the longest week on record.

I even took Wednesday off so we could go to Canada’s Wonderland.  That could be a small part of the problem.  Really, it’s just the short week that makes things seem worse.

Happy Friday!!

July weekend

July 7, 2012

The weather has been quite hot and humid for a few days in our area.

The humidex has been in the high 30’s, or around 100.

Busy weekend

June 24, 2012

Sunday afternoons are a great time to catch our breath in the midst of a busy weekend.

Yesterday was a good day for all sorts of outdoor activities.

End of the week

June 22, 2012

It’s been a busy week for us.

We took in a new foster child. (see here)

We went to Canada’s Wonderland (see here)  We had lots of fun, and the kids went to bed without any fuss.  Imagine that. 🙂

It’s the weekend!!

June 9, 2012

Yeah!! It’s Saturday.

After a busy week, we have a really busy weekend.

Tate has his soccer pictures this morning.  Instead of a game.  Something new from the company doing pictures.  They’re doing a team picture, rather than a composite.

May 25, 2012

Another week has completed.

It’s been a busy week with several appointments.  Reid is going to see lots of different practitioners in the next few months, likely resulting in getting orthotics in the fall to help strengthen his feet.  Not fun.  In the long run, it will serve him well.

Tate’s first soccer game of the season is in the morning.  The weather is supposed to be nice.

We are planning on doing a fundraising walk on Sunday, but there is a chance of rain.  If so, not all of us will go.  We’ll know on Sunday.

Throwing dirt

May 5, 2012

Today was a productive day.

Yesterday, I got some dirt to fix some bad patches in the lawn.  I got 12 bags, which is about half a cubic yard.

By mid-afternoon, I used all 12, and 4 more by supper time.  I also used a great deal of grass seed.

At different points, I took each of the boys with me.

This morning, I took Reid with me.  He did a really good job of holding my hand, and not running off.  This is a really big change over the past few months.

Later, I took Tate with me.  It’s good to have each of them with me at points in time.

As well, I got our bikes back from getting their spring tune up.  I am looking forward to getting out riding. 🙂

End of the weekend

December 12, 2011

It was a busy weekend.

Last night was a rare treat for Sandra and I, as we got out by ourselves.

This morning, Reid woke up not seeming quite like himself.  He slept for about two and a half hours, which was about normal.  When I got him up, he just sat there.  Shivering.  Very unlike him.

I fed him some yogurt, with a bit of effort.  We had to run off to pick Sandra and Tate at another event.  Reid sat quietly in the van, again, unlike himself.  I was feeding him some rice krispie square, and Reid puked all over both him and I.  Coats, shirts.  Real pleasant smell.  We got all cleaned up.

Next thing, we had to pick up P from the respite foster home.

The return went well.  Eventually, everyone settled in for the night.
